Laying
in the vineyards which encompass the Custoza hills, west of Verona, in
a miraculously intact landscape, the Golf Club Verona is a fundamental
stage in the traditional Northern Italy golf tourism.
In 1963 the original 9 - holes course, ably designed by John Harris,
was opened, and it has doubled in the following decade thanks to the growing
public interest.
In the last years, particularly in its 40th foundation anniversary, the
club underwent a complex and well planned renovation,
which respectfully updated and rendered it more aggressive thanks to designers
Baldovino Dass and Alvise Rossi Fioravanti.
The first nine holes, encased by lush vegetation and made challenging
by bunkers-and-mounds-defended greens, are followed by
a final sequence of large and rolling fairways which
remain technically congruous with the initial part of the course.
Today, the Golf Club Verona is one of the most renowned for its fascinating
course, club house, history and the staff's friendly punctuality.
The Club hosted an Open, won by Silvio Grappasonni, in 1988, another one
in 1989, won by Costantino Rocca and several Italian Championships
and Pro-Am. The course record is 65 by Jasper Parnevik.
Always favouring an eco-friendly, low-impact agronomic
management, Golf Club Verona obtained the prestigious green flag: "Committed
to Green".
